Why Volunteer?

We would appreciate your help

U3A Stonnington is run totally by volunteers. This includes reception, admin, catering, running audio visual equipment, committees, etc. All our presenters, tutors and group leaders are also volunteers.

Volunteer Roles?

We have a whole range of roles that help make our U3A run as smoothly as possible. You might like to spend a couple of hours each week or fortnight to help with our reception or office area, assist with special events or promotions, set up A/V equipment for tutors, prepare rooms for classes, or provide hospitality. You may have other skills that you wish to offer.

Perhaps you would like to join one of our committees and assist in the management of our U3A.

Some examples of roles include:

  • Committee member (e.g. Committee of Management.)
  • Program planning, presentations, tutoring
  • Promotions and publicity
  • Excursions
  • Special events
  • Functions and catering
  • Expanding membership
  • Reception
  • Audio Visual equipment setup for tutor presentations (some familiarity with computers is an asset; other training will be provided)
  • Website
  • Project assistance and new initiatives

How much of my time would it take?

We have volunteers who spend a couple of hours a week or fortnight, others who spend some hours several times a week. Some are on call only at certain times. Some volunteers help mostly from home. It all depends on the role that you choose to take and the time you have available.

If you wish to be a committee member, it would be expected that you would attend a 2 hour monthly meeting plus other responsibilities that take varying amounts of time.

The thing about being a volunteer is that you say when you are available. We recognise that these days many of our volunteers travel or need to take time out for family and other commitments. We’d love to chat with you about when you could be available.
